What level of math can I expect on the Quantitative GRE?

I’m finishing off my BA after having been out of school for 20 years and I need to take the general GRE in the next year (no the Math-specific GRE). I’m a psychology major looking at PhD programs. What levels of math can i look forward to? i need to take a class or two at a local JC to bone up on my algebra and geometry and want to know what I should be taking… I can hammer out rather complex statistics but the basis algebra and geometry has gotten rusty.

Pre calculus and stats. No calculus required – but anything up to that level is fair game.

Thanks
Bill

Can I take the GRE math subject test at 14 years of age?

GRE Quantitative section items range from basic arithmatic to algebra to geometry. You will need to know how to solve for x and y, read charts and graphs, and the formula to find the standard deviation of a set of data. Here’s a tip. The GRE doesn’t test what you know, so don’t bother taking courses at the local JC. The GRE tests your ability to figure things out. The test goes out of its way to try to trick you into picking the wrong answer. My suggestion is that you sign up for a good test prep course. They’ll teach you how to beat the test, in most cases, without going through the trouble of solving the equations. These courses are typically expensive, but worth it. You’ll learn techniques from people who’ve aced the test and you won’t have to waste your time learning irrelevant info.
